Most of our work is for organisations dealing with climate, conservation, peace and community. The way we build the websites matters too — a lighter page costs less energy every time someone opens it.
These organisations measure success in restored land, trained people and funded programmes — not in page views. Their websites have to earn trust quickly and turn a visitor into a volunteer, a donor, a member or a customer.
A website is not free to run. Every visit spends energy on the visitor’s device, on the network between us, and in the data centre serving the page. Three decisions cut that cost, and they happen to be the same decisions that make a site fast.
A visit reads a pre-built file from the nearest edge location instead of waking a server to assemble a response. Less compute per request, and a page that appears in under a second.
A phone on a 3G connection is not sent a 1920px hero. The same photograph is served at the width the screen actually needs, in a modern format.
No autoplay video, no chat widget nobody uses, no tracking script we cannot justify. Every kilobyte we do not ship is energy that is not spent on every visit, for every visitor, for the life of the site.
The result is a site that opens quickly on the low-end Android phones and thin connections most people actually use. That is an access question as much as an environmental one — a page that needs a flagship phone to load has quietly excluded most of its audience.
Organisations with small teams cannot afford to rent their own website back from an agency. We hand over the code and the content, and build the publishing system so your team edits its own pages. Changing a sentence should never require raising a purchase order.
Every build is tested with a keyboard, checked for colour contrast and marked up so screen readers can follow it. We publish the measured accessibility score for each project on our selected work page rather than describing it in adjectives.
If your organisation works on climate, conservation, peace or community, tell us what you are trying to change.
That is the work we want more of. We will tell you honestly whether we are the right fit and what it would take.
